OpenAI has announced that Indian users can now access ChatGPT Go for free for one year, in a move that reflects the company’s growing focus on India’s rapidly expanding AI user base. The announcement follows ChatGPT’s surge to over 800 million weekly active users worldwide and comes ahead of India’s upcoming AI policy discussions.
What’s New?
Starting November 4, 2025, all ChatGPT users in India (both existing and new) can use ChatGPT Go at no cost for one year. The offer unlocks several premium features, including faster responses, access during high-demand periods, and integration with OpenAI’s multimodal capabilities like image interpretation and document analysis. The ChatGPT Free tier remains available, but Go users will experience enhanced performance, bridging the gap between the free and paid Plus subscriptions.
Why India Matters to OpenAI?
India represents one of the world’s fastest-growing AI communities, with tens of millions of ChatGPT users spanning education, research, and entrepreneurship. By removing cost barriers, OpenAI aims to deepen local engagement and adoption while promoting responsible AI use. Industry experts believe this move could significantly expand India’s digital creator ecosystem, particularly among students, startups, and healthcare professionals who already use AI for research and communication tasks.
“We’ve seen extraordinary creativity from Indian users. Making ChatGPT Go free is a way to empower more people to build, learn, and innovate,” a company representative said in a press release.
There are three personal ChatGPT plans available for Indian users – Go, Plus, and Pro.
- The ChatGPT Go plan is now free, giving access to GPT-5 with basic features like messaging, uploads, and image creation.
- The Plus plan (₹2,090/month) offers advanced GPT-5 reasoning, Sora video generation, and Codex tools for professionals.
- The Pro plan (₹20,920/month) provides unlimited usage, maximum memory, deep research, and early access to new features.
Each plan is designed to suit different needs – from casual users to advanced researchers and developers.
The Race for GenAI is Heating Up in India
India’s AI race is intensifying as major tech companies introduce free premium AI plans. At the same time, Airtel users can get Perplexity Pro free for 12 months.
How to Claim this Offer?
The ChatGPT Go plan is now free for users in India.
You can claim the offer directly from the ChatGPT website or through the Google Play Store.
It will also be available on the Apple App Store next week.

Analysts note that the offer could also act as a strategic counter to Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, and Perplexity both of which are popular among India’s AI enthusiasts. The push aligns with OpenAI’s goal of scaling safe and useful AI tools globally while ensuring affordability.
