OpenAI has announced the launch of ChatGPT Health, a new health focused capability within ChatGPT designed to help users better understand and manage their health information. As part of this move, OpenAI has partnered with b.well to enable secure access to personal medical records.
Through the partnership, users will be able to connect electronic health records (EHRs) from participating healthcare systems, along with data from wellness apps and smart wearables, and ask health related questions in a more personalized context.
The aim is to help people interpret lab results, medications, diagnoses, and care plans in plain language, without replacing clinicians or providing medical diagnoses.
OpenAI said the feature is being rolled out gradually, with initial availability in the United States. Health data access is opt in, and the company emphasized that users remain in control of what information is shared. b.well will provide the underlying infrastructure to aggregate and standardize medical data from multiple sources.
The launch marks OpenAI’s most direct step into digital health, signaling growing interest in using AI to support patient engagement, care navigation, and health literacy. Industry observers see this as part of a broader shift toward consumer facing health platforms that combine artificial intelligence with interoperable health data.
OpenAI stated that ChatGPT Health is not a replacement for healthcare professionals, and that safeguards have been built in to prevent unsafe or misleading medical advice.
